Planning Ahead for VBS 2010

Preparation for VBS is underway!  We will soon be “blasting” into the Bible and learning some classic characters and how they explore new horizons.  One space station that we know the kids will love is snack time.  Will you prayerfully consider donating food items for our wonderful little explorers?  Starting next Sunday, August 1st, we will have a donation tree full of space snack ideas.  Please pick one (or more!) and return them to the office during the month of August.  Our VBS starts August 23rd and we will take off into a week of galactic fun!  Thank you for helping to make this happen.

Volunteers are still needed for VBS!  Please pick up a form and turn it into the office, call Karen Cron or Debbie Buxton, or go on line and e-mail us your information.  Thanks!

Youth Group News

Attention all youth members!  Mark your calendars for August 7th and 8th.  All incoming 6th through 12th graders are invited to go to the Rick’s cottage for a weekend of summer fun!  The cost will be $10 per person.  Please let Jen know if you plan on going.

Pop Can Collection

Thanks you from the Honduras Mission Team for all of the pop cans donated.  They will continue to collect pop cans over the next several months.

Deacon News

Our pantry has been experiencing a record number of families!  Our June numbers served are:

46 families  up 7 over last year

88 adults  up 15 over last year

52 children  down 13 from last year

Most of these families have been large!  For those items that only serve 2 or 3 people, we give a couple cans or boxes of the same item to one family.  This quickly depletes our supply.  Please add us to your shopping list for a few weeks so we can re-stock.  We appreciate all that you can do.  So many people are depending on our help to feed their hungry families!

Children’s Library

The Children’s Library has moved downstairs to the children’s worship room.  Come down and sign out a book or a movie.

Rev Dan’s Discussion Group

The Deacons of SLPC desire to minister to the sick, homebound, hungry, and any others who are suffering.  The pantry is one of the major activities for helping those in need of groceries and other food products.  Most clients are referrals from Love INC, who screens them for their needs.  Some of these individuals are then sent to our pantry on Fridays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  Church members and attendees have access to our pantry any time they are in need of groceries and cannot purchase some.  Just contact a deacon, and arrangements will made to get the needed groceries.  A screening and referral from love INC is not required by a church member or attendee.
